(Richmond, VA, February 9, 2001) - In January of 2001, General Motors released Service Bulletin Number 01-05-23-001 "to update General Motor's position on correcting brake rotor lateral runout."

Insert from GM Bulletin Number 01-05-001
"Anytime a new or refinished rotor is installed on a vehicle, the rotor must have .050 mm (.002") or less of lateral runout. This specification is important to prevent comebacks for brake pulsation. Until now, the only acceptable methods to correct brake rotor runout were to index or replace the rotor or to refinish using an on-car brake lathe.

General Motors has approved a new technology for the correction of lateral runout on new or refinished rotors. This new method is called Brake Align. It will allow the technician to meet the .050mm (.002") or less requirement for lateral runout by installing a specially selected, tapered correction plate between the rotor and the hub. The Brake Align Correction system does NOT require the use of an on-car brake lathe to correct for lateral runout."

The new lateral runout correction plates eliminate the need to service vehicles using difficult-to-set-up on-car brake lathes, and take advantage of the accuracy and superior microfinish generated by traditional bench lathes.

"We believe that Brake Align will revolutionize the way our entire industry performs brake service. Brake Align allows the technician to eliminate comebacks and give the customer a better quality job," said Tommy Saunders, President of Brake Align. "The Brake Align Runout Correction Plate diagnoses and locates the 'stack-up' of tolerances and error in the spindle, hub, wheel bearings and rotor, and fully corrects for lateral runout. There is no need for additional equipment or capital expenditure."

Brake Align's Runout Correction Plates can save up to 30-45 minutes of labor on the most difficult disc brake services. Brake Align allows the technician and the service department to once again be profitable when performing brake service.
